Pendle Witches Vintage ride becomes probably the first sportive to have its own bespoke alcoholic beverage

Now in its third year, the Pendle Witches Vintage Velo Charity Cycle Ride is getting its very own beer, commemorating the 400th anniversary of the Pendle Witch Trials (1612 to 2012).

Moorhouse's Brewery of Burnley Lancashire has created the beer and donated a barrel to be sold off as to raise funds.

A number of companies from the trade have lent their support to the ride. Falcon Cycles has donated a Retro Style Courier Sport for the Main Raffle Prize, Raleigh will supply H5 energy sports food and drink, and various prizes for a tombola raffle have been supplied by Zyro and Fisher Outdoor Leisure.

Sean McAdam, manager of Manchester IBD Ken Fosters Cycle Logic, organises the charity cycle ride with a group of friends in his own time.

He said: "All proceeds go to charity – the Stepping Stones Children's Hospice of Haslingden Lancashire and Cancer Research. Everything is beg, borrowed or scrounged and all money raised goes to the above causes.

"It starts and finishes in the Craven Heifer Public House Rawtenstall (a Moorhouses Real Ale Pub) on Easter Sunday – April 8th – and winds its way through Lancashire Moorland over the Nick o’ Pendle up Waddington Fell, used in previous Tour Of Britain Races. There's free pie and peas lunch at the pub to all riders.

"The Ride has a vintage and classic feel a bit like a British l’Eroica but modern cycles are all most welcome.

"There are two routes: a 53-mile and 13-mile circular route, £14.95 and £4.95 respectively, so it's probably the cheapest sportive in the country."
